This is the pond: it has a felt underlay, a butyl liner and felt on top with about 6 inches of gravel on top of that. The old pond partially dried up in the summer and usually went bubbly in hot weather with so much sludge at the bottom. It is much better now but still froths up in hot weather. In this photograph the pond is overflowing after so much rain in the winter and spring.

This is our well. It is over 7 metres deep with about 4 metres of water at the bottom. The pump actually works; I have drunk water from the well but it is not 100% clean: I have no idea what germs it contains. We use the water for the flowerbeds in the garden.
