Peas and beans are the last crop in the rotation. Being nitrogen fixers, they do well in less fertile soil: they actually improve the soil by adding nitrogen.
I usually grow ‘Aquadulce’ broad beans and ‘Onward’ peas; I also grow runner beans and French beans

The first row of peas germinated, grew and then did nothing for about six weeks: they have started growing again now the weather has improved. So now I have sewn two more rows of peas and two rows of broad beans.
The geese demolished the French beans.
this is pretty amazing.
Pea sticks are in, and the peas are growing, two more rows of peas have germinated. Runner beans are on the way up the poles. The dwarf French beans have been planted out. Runner beans are just coming through. Everything is very late this year.
Broad Beans are now between one and two inches tall; almost all have germinated.
